My Progress!

Guess what I did today?

I bought tickets to fly on an AIRPLANE to go visit my family in Indiana!!!!! We are going the week of Thanksgiving and I haven't seen most of them since my mom died. Thanksgiving is always challenging for me because my mom passed away on Thanksgiving in 2002. Apart from Erik's family, as much as I love them, I really don't have any family nearby anymore and sometimes, going to spend time with Erik's family almost makes me miss my own family even more. I've been promising Tanner for the last 6-7 years that I would get him back up to see my Papa (his great grandfather), but kept having to put it off; mainly because of money, but also because there was no way I could handle the flight, changing planes, getting around the airport, etc.

I'm still a little worried about having to cram my ass into one of those airplane seats, but I arranged our seats so that I'm on the aisle and Tanner is in the middle. It probably won't be comfortable, but I think we'll live. Tanner is so excited about going and I can't wait to see every one :)

I'm still amazed daily at the strides I've made since surgery. I can't help but imagine where I'm going to be around this time next year...at goal maybe? If not, probably pretty close to it. Every single day, I feel more and more free to do what I want to do, be who I want to be. Would I give any of this up to be able to have a slice of cheese cake or eat a whole plate of mexican food? Of course not! Amazing that I willingly chose, for so many years, to put food ahead of my own mobility, freedom, & happiness. It would have been nice to have been able to arrive at this point without surgery, but I will always be grateful that there was SOMETHING available to help me get here. No regrets xx

Congrats on your trip. Taking the outside seat is a good idea and you can let the arm up between you. Have a good time and enjoy your family...

Sometimes we need to experience it to feel it and believe it.
I am so glad you are going to see your family and that your whole life is opening up in such a big way.
AWesome michelle..this will be a great thanksgiving for you and your family.

yeah I'm hoping that the sum of us won't infringe on he passenger by the window lol. Tanner has lost quite a bit of weight as well so we'll see. On some of the legs we will be in a two seat row so that is better.

Chris: I always knew that I really just needed SOMETHING to get me over the hump. Get the ball rolling in the right direction and then I could buck up and keep it going on my own. The surgery was that push I needed. I still have to make the right choices every day, but now that I'm seeing such great results, it isn't as hard.

It's definitely easy to keep going when you see results. I just started back up again with a whole new fire, and lost 5 lbs this last week. I'm so glad that you're gaining your mobility back and are able to go see your family.

It's so wonderful to be able to do things again that you couldn't do with all the weight. I'm very happy for you! My father passed away just before Thanksgiving of '96 so I know it's bittersweet but I hope you'll enjoy your holiday and your newfound freedom. :D

You are very brave I always want to buy another ticket just to make sure they dont embarrass me at the boarding or while on the plane to do it. I know keven smith the clerks director was thrown off a flight for only having one ticket and the customer next to him didnt even complain. he was mortified. I would just die if they did and I always want to be covered. lol I hope it goes well for you

Losingamy: congrats on your loss!! Keep up the good work :)
Ashley: thanks so much for keeping up with me and cheering me on!
Eatthedamncupcake: It will be really nice to be near my family this Thanksgiving.
Tammy: I am still worried, I've been humilated before, but I researched Delta and they seem to have some latitude in how they handle overweight passengers. Some of the legs we will be traveling I seated us on those two seat aisles so we won't be bothering any other passengers. Kevin Smith was on Southwest Airlines and they are like the fat butt nazi's lol. Here's hoping the attendants on our flights are a bit more understanding.

Thanks for writing this. I'm still trying to get insurance to pay for my surgery...but this is inspiring. (Also I work for delta and the arm rests raise and they have seat belt extensions. You'll be fine. I'm about the same weight as you currently and I fly all the time)
